Biography
Prof. Dr. Ir. Irwandy Arif, MSc, is the leading mining expert at Kiroyan Partners and has extensive experience in the mining industry. Since 1992, he has published and presented a multitude of literature domestically and internationally.
His most recent papers include: “Estimating Rock Mass Long-Term Strength Using In-situ Measurement and Testing Results,” ISRM Conference (2008); “Lowwall Stability Analysis, A Case Study at Gatotkaca Coal Open-Pit,” PT Arutmin Indonesia Satui Mine, South Kalimantan, Indonesia (MPES 2006 15th International Symposium on Mine Planning & Equipment Selection, Bangkok December 2007); “An Effort to Continue a Sustainable Development in Post Mining Area, Case Study: Antam’s Nickel Ore Mining on Gebe Island, North Maluku Province, Indonesia” (MPES 2006 15th International Symposium on Mine Planning & Equipment Selection, Torino, Italy, September 2006).
Experience
Irwandy graduated from the Department of Mining Engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1976. Since then, he has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Mining Engineering, Faculty of Earth Sciences and Mineral Technology at ITB, as well as Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Board of Trustees (BoT) at ITB, the highest body at the institute, which represents and acts on behalf of the government as the owner/shareholder and public/community as the stakeholders.
Irwandy also serves as Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Mining Professionals (PERHAPI) and Chairman of the Commission on Accreditation under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. He is an Independent Commissioner of a coal mining company, PT Multi Harapan Utama, and a member of the Audit Committee of PT Adaro Energy Tbk. Previously, he served as Independent Commissioner and Chairman of the Audit Committee of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, as well as Dean of the School of Earth Sciences and Mineral Technology at ITB.
Irwandy has extensive experience in the field of productivity improvement, slope stability, and stockpile aspects. He has led several feasibility studies for coal companies.
