Jakarta, July 28, 2022 — Cornell University has selected Mr. Timothy Ravis as the 2022 Winner of the R-Adhikarya’ Niche’ Award (RANA). Conducted annually since 2020, the R-Adhikarya’ Niche’ Award grants scholarships for RANA Winners at three world-class educational institutions in the United States: the East-West Center, Stanford University, and Cornell University.
At Cornel, the RANA recognizes Global Development graduate students pursuing innovative and “niche” thinking in their studies and careers. The R-Adhikarya’ Niche’ Award of US$10,000 is offered in conjunction with additional Cornell scholarships for a total value of US$64,800.
Timothy Ravis is a Cornell Ph.D. student whose research focuses on uncovering social, political, and economic impediments to a green energy transition, focusing on geothermal energy in Indonesia. He envisions a carbon-neutral world that, through reforms to the energy transition process, is more just, equitable, and peaceful.
Timothy had studied urban planning at Harvard University, where he was a Presidential Scholar. While there, he specialized in urban analytics and data science. He spent a summer as a Fellow at the UNDP’s Pulse Lab in Jakarta and also researched the politics of data and development in Indonesia, including the country’s efforts to develop an integrated, centralized, and harmonized spatial data infrastructure—the One Map Policy.
Prior to Harvard, Timothy worked as an impact evaluation advisor at the Australian government-funded Indonesia Infrastructure Initiative, a consultant at the World Bank in Jakarta, and a Fulbright scholar in Bandung.
“The RANA Prize rewards innovative thinking and those who are eager to explore the unexplored in their intellectual pursuits,” said Lori Leonard, professor and chair of the Department of Global Development. “We are thrilled to recognize Tim Ravis with this award and are thankful for Ronny Adhikarya and Mee-Ching for establishing this visionary prize in Global Development.”
The RANA Founder, Dr. Ronny Adhikarya, conveyed his congratulations to Timothy Ravis and is pleased to have a highly-qualified scholar, with significant Indonesian experience, as the RANA 2022 Winner from Cornell. He is also grateful to Cornell University, especially its Department of Global Development, for selecting an impressive and outstanding RANA 2022 Winner. About R-Adhikarya “Niche” Award
The R-Adhikarya “Niche” Award (RANA) is a token of appreciation for individuals who have demonstrated a ‘niche’ of innovative thinking in their studies and careers. Conducted annually, the award grants its scholarship to potential young visionaries with a growth mindset to study at three world-class educational institutions in the United States; the East-West Center (EWC), Stanford University, and Cornell University. These institutions were part of Dr. Ronny Adhikarya’s academic journey as he went to each university, Cornell for his Master’s degree and Stanford for his Doctoral degree, where he obtained fellowships from two universities. Dr. Adhikarya later worked as a research staff at the EWC and continued his extensive career in international development assistance in many countries for over 45 years, among others, at the World Bank, in Washington DC, USA, and the United Nations/FAO in Rome, Italy.
Dr. Adhikarya and his wife, Mee-Ching, see RANA as their gratitude and contribution to supporting the education sector in Indonesia. Kiroyan Partners (KP), a leading Public Affairs consulting firm, has agreed to partner in this endeavor by providing support to coordinate and implement the communication, publicity and marketing activities of RANA, as well as coordinating and maintaining the internal communication platform for the International Selection Committee members. KP believes this initiative aligns with its commitment to supporting human capital development in Indonesia.
