Context
A leading international conservation organization faced a reputational challenge following the termination of its forestry cooperation agreement with the Indonesian government. The development attracted public attention and raised questions around the organization’s standing and its relationship with key stakeholders.

Challenge
The absence of clear information regarding the termination created uncertainty and speculation, increasing reputational risk. At the same time, strained relations with a key government institution limited direct engagement, making it difficult to clarify the situation and respond effectively. Without a structured approach, the issue risked escalating and affecting the organization’s broader operations.

Our Approach
Kiroyan Partners conducted issue mapping and analysis to identify the underlying drivers of the situation and assess stakeholder perceptions. Based on these insights, we developed a crisis communication strategy that guided both internal alignment and external engagement. This included advisory on messaging, stakeholder communication, and interaction with government counterparts, alongside targeted capability-building support to strengthen the organization’s media handling and response readiness.

Impact
The organization was able to respond to the situation in a more structured and measured manner, reducing uncertainty and stabilizing stakeholder perceptions. Strategic communication helped mitigate potential reputational damage, while improved internal readiness strengthened its ability to manage similar issues in the future.
