Through a combination of formal education and work experience in the broadcast industry and development sector, Nanda has always been passionate about the role that the media can play to promote development and social change. In 2012, she decided to focus on her interests and was awarded Chevening Scholarship from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office UK to pursue a master’s degree at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, majoring in Media and International Development. During her studies, she wrote a paper about the shifting narratives in environmental campaigns and her research was presented at the Media and International Development Symposium held in Norwich, the United Kingdom. In early 2018, she co-founded the Indonesia Communication for Development (C4D) Forum; a learning network that connects communication and development practitioners to exchange experiences and best practices.
Nanda began her career in the broadcast industry in 2004 as a radio announcer and news reporter before pursuing her career in the development sector. She worked for international organisations such as WWF Indonesia, the World Agroforestry Center, SOS Children’s Villages Indonesia, and the ASEAN Foundation. As the first Marketing and Communication Manager at the ASEAN Foundation, she developed the foundation’s integrated communication strategy and designed outreach activities to help the foundation achieve its mandate in promoting ASEAN awareness and enhancing interaction among various ASEAN stakeholders.
Prior to joining Kiroyan Partners, she worked for a USAID-funded project; the Sustainable Ecosystems Advanced (SEA) as Communication and Outreach Specialist. This role allowed her to particularly hone her skills and creativity in developing messages and outreach activities that could contribute to increasing public awareness and advocating behaviour change toward marine conservation.
